9/11+10

September 10, 2011

How do you count the cost of 2,819 lives? How do you honor the sacrifices made by them and for them?

Ten years ago, 9/11+10 looked like a math formula, or 911 was the number you call for police, fire or ambulance, or 9/11 was 9 divided by 11. September 11 was just another nondescript day on the calendar with no special significance, unless it was your birthday or something. Ten years ago tomorrow, that all changed forever. Just like December 7, 1941 or November 22, 1963, 9/11/01 forced its way into our national conscience, forever to be identified as another "day of infamy". 2,819 lives were cowardly taken in the space of an hour, and we would never be the same. I can still remember where I was when that second plane hit the WTC, and the feeling of absolute anger I felt at those who'd done this for days afterward, much of which is still with me today. On 9/11, we were all New Yorkers - we were all Americans!

Now we can argue about what should have been done to prevent those tragic events in New York City, Arlington, Va., and a field in Shanksville, PA., or how what we have done since just hasn't cut the mustard, but one thing we can agree upon: Pure evil reared its ugly head that day, and has not subsided yet. Oh, it was always there, but now many of us think about it every day, especially if you live in New York.

Tomorrow we remember those who died - many heroically, but all unnecessarily - and we should spend some time asking God to not only especially comfort those who lost loved ones, but those as well who saw the tragedy up close and still struggle with the events of that day. As that time nears, we hear about another "credible" threat from the same group by cowardly thugs with abominable thought processes, reminding us that there is still much to be done. Whatever happens, we will never forget those in the air and on the ground who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and no matter what sick minds may devise, we will not be deterred, and every attack only strengthens our national resolve - something the Axis powers in WWII learned the hard way.

So we pause, pray, remember and honor the victims of the 9/11 cowards, and resolve to honor their memory by helping defeat such evil by honoring our God who gave us life, our Country as given us by our Founders, and those who right now put their lives on the line to insure our safety.

As we remember, we ask that God would Bless and Heal the wounds of the families of 9/11, and that God would Bless and Heal America.
