What Was Your Best Day?

December 1, 2023

What was the best day you ever had? Do you remember it?

I remember mine. I often think of that day to help myself go to sleep after a trying day...

We were on vacation on the Gulf Coast, and decided to spend the day at Ship Island, a little strip of land 12 miles off the coast of Mississippi. There's an abandoned fort there and history that goes back to 1699. But, the attraction for me was the southern coast of the island, where there were some lounge-type chairs that faced the ocean. The sun wasn't out much that day, so we spent most of the trip to the island just sitting in those chairs, watching and listening to the ocean, and being lulled in and out of sleep. It was one of the most peaceful days I've ever had. I came back as relaxed as I have ever been.

Have you ever had a day like that? Imagine a day where you wake up from the most restful sleep you've ever had, to begin a day that you've looked forward to for a while because you wouldn't have to work, other than on things you really liked to work on - or, you were going to a place you've always wanted to go, and you were doing so with friends and/or family you love spending time with. Then, at the end of the day, you would sit down to a sumptuous meal, spend quality time with your friends and family, finally ending the day by laying down to sleep in an extremely comfortable bed, falling asleep immediately, knowing the next day would be just as good or better.

Who wouldn't want that?

Now, imagine that every day could be like that! Not a care in the world, and each day looking forward to the next! What I've just described is what our life will be like when Christ returns, rescues us from this mess we're in, and takes us to our forever home. Jesus described it to the thief on the cross as 'paradise'.

In all the various descriptions used in the Bible to describe the hereafter for those us who have accepted the payment made for our sins on the Cross, not a single one describes anything negative. We will leave all the negatives behind once we leave this place, and be carried to our 'mansion' abode that has already been prepared for us.

Here's the only catch: You have to accept a free gift. The problem is, most people are being convinced that it either doesn't exist, or that what we have here is better. I've talked to some of these people, and they think people like me are deluded.

The trouble is - they can't come up with anything that compares with what I've just described. If the life here on earth is all we have - it's not enough.

I'd like to have what's behind Door #2, thank you very much....
